A masterpiece of architecture, finished in 537 AD.
Serious tile work. Iznik tile work, that is. Yeah, that's right. Over 400 years old, and it's still the "New Guy."
You'll often find better deals out in countryside where the items are made, but here, everything is literally under one roof.
A section on things to buy in Turkey. The Covered Market, Istanbul. This face serves as the base to a column.
Other monuments in Istanbul. This is, of course, the most critical building in the palace: The Confectionery (Helvahane) of the Second Court. Built from a remodeled prison in Istanbul's Sultanahmet, the hotel is a nice example of Ottoman Architecture. Bah, my notes are a mess. I can see every bump in the road in my scrawl, but not where I took this picture.
It's gotta be Zelve, Cappadocia. The Kaleici is the old, Roman-walled city of Antalya. Don't tell a Greek or a Turk this, but their countries' traditional foods, drinks and booze are nearly identical.

Sightseeing in Istanbul
Istanbul is the only city embracing two continents: Asia and Europe. The Bosphorus, meandering through the heart of the city, combines the waters of the Black Sea and Marmara Sea. Istanbul, the former capital of three empires- Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman- displays many surviving historical works of art revealing the traces of these empires. Istanbul, while preserving the inheritance of its past looks forward to its modern future… Istanbul a source of inspiration for photographers, artists, poets... Well, to cut it short, Istanbul is a fascinating city with something for everyone. The museums, churches, palaces, mosques, bazaars, forests, groves and sights of natural beauty seem never-ending. As you rest on the European shore of the Bosphorus at sunset and look at the golden evening light reflected on the windows of the houses on the Asian shore, or as you stand on the Asian shore and watch the sun setting behind the elegant minarets of old Istanbul, you immediately appreciate, why so many centuries ago, people chose to settle on this extraordinary spot. Indeed there will be times you feel Istanbul is really one of the most glorious cities in the world. We believe words are not enough to describe the treasures of Istanbul so come along and find out
With the lack of an elaborated city plan Istanbul changes face quite fast. The city offers many traffic challenges to its citizens. For example a person living on the Anatolian side may work on the European side or just the opposite. Therefore during the rush hours the existing two bridges over the Bosphorus (Bosphorus and Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridges respectively) and three bridges over the Golden Horn are very crowded. Well at least you can enjoy the panorama of both the Bosphorus and Golden Horn while waiting in the terrific traffic! The highways passing through both bridges are the main roads connecting Europe to Asia and all International Road Transfers (TIR) must use these highways. As a result, together with inner city traffic you meet a very colorful range of vehicles causing this confusion! Well of course the bridges are not the only way of transport: ferry (arabalı vapur), steamship (vapur), sea bus (deniz otobüsü), motor boat (motor), metro (metro), light metro (hafif metro) (only on the European side), sub urban trains (banliyö treni), municipality bus (belediye otobüsü), public bus (halk otobüsü), tunnel (tünel), tram (tramvay), taxi (taksi), and public taxi (dolmuş) are the other alternatives. Nevertheless people still prefer the bridges and we have yet to figure out why!!!
Sometimes it's difficult to find a hotel that can provide a soft and comfortable pillow, at an affordable price. While talking about accomodation it is worth to mention the Hotels. They are not the places where we only stay overnight in other cities but also are the sites we enjoy to pop in at downtown. For instance, why don't you spend a "Valentines" night with your lover or spouse at one of the attractive hotels of the city? Or why don't you spend a weekend in a special hotel at Sultanahmet and wander around all day long. Let's be more imaginative: What about a weekend escape to Princes' Islands? The addresses of Special Hotels, which are mostly renovated mansions, Apart hotels together with modest and luxurious (5-star) hotels of the town are given in our Yellow Pages. We wish you a joyous stay… |
